It Is Possible To Give Your Cat A Bath, And Come Away Scratch Free
by: Niall Kennedy
Although your cat doesn’t realise it right now, after some tender loving care and a little shampoo, he will appreciate it.
Cats hate water, that much is easy to see as he lashes out at you with his claws when he gets anywhere near it. Why would someone want to bathe their cat, then?
Well, they are dirty and can become flea infested just like a dog, so they do need them. Sometimes, you’ll just have to do it. The key is to not bathe your cat more than once a month as you will damage his skin and his hair if you do so more than that. And, you can do it.
The Supplies
To do the task, you’ll need some supplies. The very least you will need are two cloth towels, a pet safe shampoo and conditioner, a sponge and a sprayer to attach to your skin nozzle. No sprayer? Then use a pitcher of water and keep it near the sink. You should try to have a non skid mat there as well to help your cat feel better about standing in the water.

How Fast Will Your Cat Will Grow - The Important Stages In A Cat’s Life
by: Niall Kennedy
Just like having a child, it can be incredibly fulfilling bringing a kitten into your family and watching it grow up. It takes only a year for your cute little kitten to mature into a cat. It can seem hard to believe but it will happen fast. Being prepared is the goal here. So what are the key milestones for a young cat?
The First Moments
Kittens are born blind and they are completely dependant on their mother. The first stages will involve learning to eat and then growing. The kitten’s eyes will open and he will want to explore. At four weeks old, he is romping around shakily with his siblings. At this time he can begin to learn to use the litter box and should start to become a social animal. In the wild, the kitten’s mother will start to supplement his diet with dead mice and other small pretty. But, you may want to give him some soft kitten food or some dry food that is softened a little with water.

Beyond Blackey & Smokey - 10 Great Ideas for Naming Black Dogs
by: Randal Breaux
How can you look the dog in the eyes ever again? Every time
you call his name, he wallows in shame. You’ve banished him
to the lowest level of dog name hell - you’ve named your Lab
“Blackey.”
Any four-year-old can explain that a dog’s name should
reflect something about him - the way he looks, the way he
acts, what he likes to eat something. So most
four-year-olds will take the next most obvious step - naming
a black dog Blackey… or Smokey… or something equally
inane.
The thought that so many grown adults were not able to
muster more creativity could undermine our society’s basic
faith in democracy. So let’s hope that the over-abundance
of such uninspiring monikers is the work of children -
parents’ having left the honor of naming the family pet to
junior or sissy. While common, this type of delegation is
rarely a good idea. Remember: Dogs can last half a
generation; your little tyke will be mighty embarrassed in

Jake The Border Collie Tells His Tales
by: Shirley Purdy
Hi everyone, it’s Jake here again… with a follow-up to my first dog story, that was called “Jake’s Own Story” and gave a brief biographical insight into my life so far.
Here is my update… The last two years have been busy for mom and dad, for one reason or another, but somehow they always had time for me!
Whenever they arrived home, I was always there with a big “Hello, missed you loads and it’s great to have you home”. I think this helped to relax them a bitsince I always got taken for walks, no matter how tired they were. We didn’t go very far sometimes but I always made the most of it and would enjoy every moment. I would just be myself and as everyone knows, a dog can have a good time doing nothing.
During the summer months, which were really hot and sunny, it sometimes got a bit too hot for me. You see, as a Border Collie, I have to wear this black and white fur coat all the time!! Thankfully, the nice thing is that my Mom and Dad take me down to the beach where I can run around at the waters edgeand cool down!

The Havanese Puppy- Where Did It All Start? Part 2
by: Fiona Kelly
The popularity of the Havanese breed increased in Cuba throughout the 1900’s. The Havanese breed really is the perfect house dog that is very affectionate, good natured, and has a beautiful silky coat. Their coat is so silky that these puppies are referred to as “Havana Silk”.
One thing to note is, that the wealthy Cuban society loved the Havanese not only for their Wonderful features and affectionate nature, but also for their high intellectual capacity. The Havanese Puppy is highly intelligent and is very skilled at performing tricks and following commands.
Just as the Bichon breed of dogs have been circus performers for hundreds of years. The Havanese was certainly no exception and often danced around and performed tricks for their wealthy owners that were entertaining and delighted guests.
The Havanese breed is instinctively great at performing which led this breed to become a top show dog. Cubans have focused on the show dog capabilities of the Havanese breed causing a surge in the breed’s popularity. This popularity skyrocketed in the late 1990’s and continues to increase.

3 Important Things to Remember When Training Your Puppy
by: Dy Witt
Puppies are eager and willing to do the right thing. They love your happy face and the squealy noises you make when they have done something great. They will do ANYthing to please you because of the loving rewards they get from being a Good Dog. They just cannot get enough of your praises and cuddles.
Moving towards “What a good dog!” from “Bad Puppy!” is based on one thing. Your puppy does not know the English language, and the faster he learns it, the better for all, because the minute he knows what you want he will DO it. Make it faster and easier for him to learn by keeping these tips in mind:
1. Be consistent in the words you choose to teach him commands. If you say, “Wanna go potty?” in the morning, and “Have to go out?” two hours later, and “Wanna go pee?” two hours later, etc., then that is THREE phrases you have asked him to learn in one day instead of only one. Decide which words to use, and make sure everyone in your family uses the same ones.

Cats And Pills - Tablets
by: Colin Visser
Nearly everything alive becomes ill at some stage in its life, and pets are no exception. I have been very fortunate in that my two cats have been very healthy for most of their lives. Recently the oldest cat become ill and had to go to the vet. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with a form of cancer. The treatment options were pills or radiation ‘therapy’. The radiation therapy was very expensive so that left the pills. Pills are fine for humans, but if you have ever tried to administer pills to your cat then you would know some of the problems I have had.
I usually feed my cats on a dry ‘all in one’ biscuit diet. This diet and a supplement of fresh food has kept them very healthy for over 14years. But now I need to add pills to her diet every twelve hours. So what do I feed her that will hide the pill well enough for her to eat it without complaining? Well after some experimentation I came to the conclusion that hiding a whole pill was not the answer. Not the answer at all. Whole pills are located and removed from the food with amazing accuracy. The simple answer is to crush the pills before adding them to the food.

Living In Harmony Or At War? Having More Than One Cat In The House
by: Niall Kennedy
I have two cats and I can’t imagine that either of them would want to live without the other. They live like brother and sister. And I can’t imagine me living with just one cat either.
For those that love cats, having just one is never enough. Instead of having just one cat to call your own, you can have several. Those who have more than one cat realize that this is a good thing not only for the cat owner, but also for the cats as well. Cats like other cat company.
Are you considering getting another cat? Many people wonder if their cat would be okay with another being around. If your cat is alone for a long period of time, then he may like having a cat around. Older cats will often develop a new lease on life when there is a new kitten introduced to the home. Some cats do like their solitude though and territorial issues can cause a problem.

Groom Your Cat To Avoid Hairballs - Kitty Will Love You For It
by: Niall Kennedy
As loving cat owners we hate to think that our beloved pets are feeling unwell. That can be the first impression when your cat starts making hacking noises. Usually this is the first signs of the cat trying to get rid of a hairball.
If you see a blob of disgusting stuff on your floor, it is likely to be a hairball. Cats need to do this in order to remove hair from within their stomachs to keep them from getting sick.
What is it? It’s a mass of hair and probably some food from the inside of a cat’s body. When a cat grooms himself, he removes loose hair from throughout his body and it ends up in his stomach. Sometimes, the hair comes together and forms a ball in there. If he can not pass it, it is likely it won’t break down but will come up instead.

Ideas for how to clean cat urine stains
When cat urine seeps through carpet, into padding and down to the floor beneath, it can give your home an unpleasant aroma (to say the very least!).
